Ancient fund: parchments

 

The collection of parchments -the oldest dating back to the 11th century- have a very diverse provenance: the monastery of Alguaire, the Benedictine monasteries of Sant Benet de Bages, Sant Pere de Casserres and the Col·legi de l’Assumpció de Lleida. There are also legal documentation from different localities such as Empordà, Rosselló, Vallès or Barcelona, ​​and a group of academic titles, mainly from the University of Cervera.

 

The collection

The collection consists of 890 parchments from various sources:

  • Monastery of Alguaire (religious convent of the order of the Hospital de Sant Joan de Jerusalem, situated near Lleida).
  • Benedictine monasteries of Sant Benet de Bages and of Sant Pere de Casserres.
  • Documentation from different locations, primarily from Empordà, the city of Perpinyà, and other locations in Rosselló, (from the period when they formed part of the Principat de Catalunya), Vallès and Barcelona.
  • Col·legi de l'Assumpció of the ancient Estudi General of Lleida.
  • Bachelor’s degree certificates in Philosophy, Medicine, Law, and Theology of the University of Cervera and other universities (Valencia, Huesca and Zaragoza, and also some foreign universities).
