Al 1951 L. Pauling i R. B. Corey van publicar l’estructura de l’hèlix alfa, element d’estructura secundaria en les proteïnes. En acabar de resoldre l’estructura de l’hèlix alfa, sense disposar de dades experimentals, van publicar al 1953 un primer model en què es proposava una estructura helicoidal d’una hèlix triple.

In 1951, L. Pauling and R. B. Corey published the structure of the alpha helix, a common motif in the secondary structure of proteins. After solving the structure of the alpha helix, without any experimental data, they published in 1953 a first model in which it presented a helical structure of a triple helix.
